Cars in Germany's Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers stated they were alerted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report early analysis show the substance was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.

An important representative stated the attack left him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
